Kate Perillo was scrolling through the internet and stumbling upon pictures of a cat named Sam with lips that seemed to defy the norm. Sam, a Siamese cat, was living all the way in Tucson, Arizona, amidst a feral cat colony.

Sam was under the care of Poets Square Cats, a group of volunteers dedicated to rescuing stray kitties. A snapshot of Sam’s distinctive features, marked by larger-than-average lips and crossed eyes, made its way to social media, causing quite a buzz.

As it turns out, Sam was grappling with eosinophilic granuloma, an allergy-induced inflammation of the mouth area. When Kate Perillo saw those quirky pictures, she sensed an instant connection and knew she had to bring Sam home.

“I’m really not a superstitious person, but I always thought adopting a pet just had to feel right. And when I saw Sam’s picture, I got that feeling!” Perillo shared.

Undeterred by the distance, Perillo crossed the country to unite with her feline soulmate. She wasted no time in taking Sam to the vet, where a steroid shot and antibiotic set the stage for a remarkable recovery.

In just a few months, Sam’s mouth area fully healed, and her once-swollen lips returned to normal. “She’s missing three of those little teeth in front, but that doesn’t bother her,” Perillo happily noted.

Now, Sam revels in the joys of a full life with her new family. From playful moments with her owners to leash walks, sun-soaking sessions by the window, and bird-watching escapades, Sam is living her best life.

“I absolutely love her,” Perillo gushed, capturing the heartwarming journey of a cat who found a forever home filled with love and acceptance.
