When we think of large cats, it’s typically a Maine Coon or Norwegian Forest Cat that comes to mind. But Ragdolls can weigh between 10 to 20 pounds when fully grown, giving both of those breeds a run for their money!
Weight Difference Between Male and Female Ragdolls
Female Ragdolls weigh between 8 to 15 pounds while males will weigh 12 to 20 pounds. Indeed, the weight discrepancy between male and female Ragdolls is pretty significant which is something to keep in mind if you’re considering getting a Ragdoll.
Why Don’t Ragdolls Seem as Big As Other Breeds?
Ragdolls might not seem as late as the biggest cat breeds out there, but that’s probably because they have more of a medium-length coat, which can make them seem smaller than the longhair breeds mentioned above.
When Ragdolls Reach Full Maturity
Not only are they gigantic kitties, but Ragdolls take a very long time to reach full maturity at around 4 years. This means that they’ll experience intermittent growth spurts during those 4 years, typically with the greatest percentage growth in kittenhood. Their colors will also darken over the course of that time and come in more fully.
Do Ragdolls Eat More Than Other Breeds?
Because they’re bigger cats they’ll naturally need higher amounts of food to sustain them. The amount of food you feed your Ragdoll highly depends on the tip of food you’re feeding them and what stage of life they’re in, so it’s hard to give one blanket recommendation here.
It’s best to ask your vet what the best amount of food is; they’ll be able to calculate the correct amount based on your Ragdoll’s weight.
