Meet Duchess, the white cat who captured hearts online thanks to her striking resemblance to the mother cat in Disney’s The Aristocats—also named Duchess.
Shelby Sewell-Lopez from East Texas adopted Duchess back in 2018. At the time, Duchess was in rough shape—frail, with hair falling out, a hernia, and infested with parasites.
Despite it all, she remained calm throughout her rehabilitation, revealing her inner beauty. Well, except for her fear of vacuum cleaners!
One day, Shelby made a surprising discovery: Duchess was in a closet with what she thought was a mouse. But upon closer inspection, it turned out to be a newborn kitten! Soon, three more bundles of fur followed, resembling characters straight out of The Aristocats.
Berlioz, Marie, Toulouse, and the fourth kitten, Blue, quickly stole their hearts. Though not officially an Aristocat, Blue’s affectionate nature makes him stand out.
Despite her tough past, Duchess proved to be a devoted mother, never straying far from her kittens as they explored the house. Shelby admits Duchess got a bit spoiled, with meals and water brought to her.
When it came time to decide their fate, Shelby couldn’t bear to separate them and convinced her husband to keep them all.
And here they are today: Marie, Toulouse, and Berlioz, living happily ever after with Duchess, just like in the movies!
