In the sweltering heat of summer, two tiny kittens were found abandoned in a trash bag inside a garbage can.
Luckily, fate was on their side and they were rescued by a team of caring individuals who refused to let them perish.
And so, the heart-warming story of Buttercup and Westley began.
Cathy McCaughan, a kind-hearted animal lover, took the kittens in and gave them a new home.
She named them Buttercup and Westley, and they quickly became a part of her family. But their journey to this loving home was not an easy one.
It all started when one of Cathy’s mother’s co-workers heard strange noises coming from a kitchen trash bag.
To their surprise, they discovered two newborn kittens inside a sealed Ziploc bag. Cathy’s mother immediately sprang into action and called Cathy to get the kittens help.
When Cathy arrived, she was struck by how tiny and weak the kittens were.
She knew that their odds of survival were not good, but she refused to give up on them. She fed them formula with a syringe and monitored their body temperatures around the clock.
For the first three days, Cathy hardly slept as she cared for the kittens. She fed them, wiped their bottoms with wet cotton balls, and obsessed over their every move.
But slowly and surely, the kittens started to gain strength and grow. They transitioned to bottles and began to resemble actual kittens.
As they grew stronger, Cathy’s anxiety lessened and she started to fall in love with the kittens. She named them and became emotionally invested in their wellbeing.
She watched as her old German Shepherd allowed them to run and play before gently herding them back for naptime.
And now, just look at them! Buttercup and Westley are thriving and living their best lives thanks to Cathy’s love and devotion. They crawl up to her face for kisses, play with her children, and make tiny little thumps with their paws as they run around on the wood floors.
In the end, this is a story of love, perseverance, and the unbreakable bond between humans and animals. As Cathy herself said, “I love these furballs. I love them for fighting so hard when all of the odds were against them.”
