Get ready to meet China, the notorious feline cat burglar with a penchant for “borrowing” her neighbor’s belongings and presenting them to her owner with an unmistakable meow of pride.
China has shared her pilfered treasures, from letters and socks to even garbage, with her owner Monica for nearly seven years. Her kleptomaniac tendencies emerged when she was just two years old. Monica explained how it all began, saying, “We were sitting on the couch one day and heard her. She was making some weird meows, so we slowly peeked around the corner and saw her dropping the sock by my door.”
As the stolen items piled up, Monica had to take measures to make certain things cat-proof. But when they moved to a new house with a spacious backyard, China took her thieving skills to a whole new level.
Monica recounted a bewildering discovery: “I was leaving to work one day and found a pack of cigarettes at my entrance. I came back from work and found matches. I was so confused. A few days later, more items started appearing, and that’s when I pieced it together. She had been burglarizing my neighbor’s yard and wouldn’t stop.”
Monica soon realized that she was dealing with a professional thief in her own home. Initially, she tried to return the stolen goods to her neighbors’ yards, but China promptly brought them back, seemingly insisting, “You really need to keep this.”
During the coronavirus lockdown, Monica had the chance to witness China’s prolific thieving skills firsthand. “She is basically coming and going as she pleases, stealing all day. She’s gone up to 3-4 things a day, depending on what people leave outside,” Monica revealed.
To prove that her cat was the true culprit, Monica set up a camera and launched the Instagram account “Songs of my felines.” This account features a series called “Things China brings me,” revealing that nothing is safe from this feline’s thieving paws.
China’s antics on Instagram and TikTok have made her an internet sensation, with nearly 30,000 subscribers. Even her neighbors have joined in on the fun, following China’s adventurous exploits online.
Monica set up a return box that China can’t access, so there’s no harm done in the end. The cat burglar might not be giving up her life of crime anytime soon— “Things China brings me” has reached part five and counting!
It’s safe to say that this sneaky feline has made quite a name for herself online!
