In South Texas, a cat named Mia was making a fuss at an overcrowded shelter.
Anissa Beal, the director and founder of Edgar and Ivy’s Cat Sanctuary, was on her regular run to the shelter when she heard Mia’s meows from a mile away.
According to Beal, Mia was crying so loudly that even the animal control officers needed earplugs!
Beal discovered that Mia was surrendered to the shelter as an unwanted cat.
But Mia’s vocal cords were not unwanted, in fact, they were a core part of her personality.
Even after Mia was settled into her new temporary home at Edgar and Ivy’s Cat Sanctuary, she refused to tone it down. She would hiss, chirp, purr, and scream, demanding attention from everyone in the room.
Despite her constant vocalizations, Mia was perfectly healthy.
The only problem was that potential adopters passing by were concerned that she was in pain or upset. So, Beal and her coworkers had to put up a sign explaining that Mia was fine and just very, very vocal.
But Mia’s unique personality ended up being a blessing in disguise.
The shelter posted her on social media, and people all over the world fell in love with her loud and proud attitude. Mia’s new mom even drove five hours to adopt her, and Mia is now living her best life in her forever home.
According to Beal, Mia’s refusal to be quiet probably saved her life. She wouldn’t allow herself to be overlooked, and that’s a lesson we can all learn from her. So, don’t be quiet like a mouse, be loud and proud like Mia the cat!
