When volunteer Donald was on his way to Happy Tails animal shelter, he couldn’t believe his eyes.
There, almost buried in the snow, was a plastic cat carrier. Without wasting a moment, he hurried over and started digging it out.
To his surprise, nestled inside the carrier was a little grey kitten.
“As she emerged from the carrier, covered in ice and snow, I knew we had to help her,” Donald shared.
Though Winter didn’t have any injuries, she was shivering from the cold and completely drenched.
It’s hard to say how long she had been waiting in the snow for someone to rescue her, but luck was on her side that day. The carrier was still visible from the road when Donald drove by.
After bringing her back to the shelter, the team named her Winter, a fitting tribute to her brave survival. Once she had warmed up and enjoyed a good meal, Winter’s true personality began to shine through.
“Winter is very outgoing, funny, and full of personality,” Donald remarked. “She loves rubbing her head on things and exploring her surroundings.”
Now in a warm and caring environment, Winter will never have to worry about being loved or cared for again.
She even shares her space with Luna, another kitty who was rescued from a similar situation. Luna was found with frozen paws by the shelter’s mailbox. Having each other’s company has brought comfort to both feline friends.
The good news doesn’t stop there. Happy Tails, a limited-intake, no-kill facility, is dedicated to sheltering and caring for stray and abandoned dogs and cats. They provide a safe haven for animals in need. If you would like to support their vital work, you can visit their website at http://www.happytailsanimalshelter.org/.
In an exciting update, Winter has found her forever home. She has been adopted into a loving family, and everyone at the shelter couldn’t be happier for her. Winter’s journey from the snow to a warm and caring home is truly heartwarming.
