Morpheus, a long-haired orange cat, spent his days wandering the streets, sleeping on leaves for a bit of comfort. He looked hungry, rough around the edges, and in dire need of some medical attention.
Thankfully, a few kind-hearted neighbors stepped in, offering food and water. They teamed up with Little Wanderers NYC to figure out a plan to rescue him. Morpheus, although shy and nervous around people, didn’t run away. It was as if he knew he needed their help.
After braving the elements for years, Morpheus was finally off the streets, with a foster home eagerly awaiting his arrival.
He was estimated to be around six years old and had spent most of his life outdoors, shying away from human contact. Morpheus had a tough time due to an abnormality in his eyelids, which caused him pain and discomfort.
“He was born with a condition called eyelid entropion in which part of his eyelid was folded in towards his eyeball, in both eyes,” Little Wanderers NYC shared. “This folded eyelid scratched and irritated the surface of both of his eyes, and he required ophthalmic surgery to repair the condition. Morpheus was half blind and FIV positive, but this boy is a survivor and was ready for rescue.”
A dedicated foster volunteer took him under their wing, providing a quiet space for him to decompress. Morpheus was over the moon about the abundance of food and plushy things to snuggle up with. For the first time in a long while, he felt safe and content, with no worries about where his next meal would come from.
While waiting for his scheduled surgery, Morpheus recovered from an upper respiratory infection, made great progress, and gradually came out of his shell. The surgery was a success, and he was a much happier and more relaxed cat, now free from pain.
He was friendly with other cats in the house, enjoying their company and learning from their interactions with people. Morpheus was a fan of wet food, devouring it in the blink of an eye.
Although still a bit shy, he was always curious about his surroundings and eager to observe what people were up to. After months of recovery and socialization, Morpheus was ready for a place to call his own. His fur turned soft and silky, and he learned to savor head scratches and treats.
Playful, gentle, and yearning for love, Morpheus had come a long way from his days on the streets. A loving family fell head over heels for him and decided to adopt him, along with another former street cat named Keke.
Morpheus embarked on a journey to his forever home, alongside his new feline brother. Their first few weeks were spent hiding under the couch, but they eventually claimed their new abode as their kingdom.
One night, his new owner woke up to the sound of Morpheus having a midnight party, playing with toys. As weeks passed, Morpheus started spending time on the couch instead of under it. He relished the comfort of his new throne, and he adored the other resident cats, often following his humans around the house.
Now, Morpheus lives a happily ever after life. No more sleeping on leaves and trash for this feline friend. He now snoozes on antique red couches and has transformed into a joyful, chubby, and mushy ball of fur.
