Meet Possum, the not-so-ordinary cat with an extraordinary transformation! It all started when Tamari, an animal rescuer, embarked on a TNR project in a New Jersey trailer park.
“I was told he was blind and elusive, but my gut feeling said otherwise,” Tamari shared. Despite the challenges, she set humane traps, determined to rescue the mysterious feline.
For three months, Tamari kept an eye out for the elusive “blind cat.” Just as she was about to wrap up her rescue mission, there he was – captured under a drop trap. “We all thought he was blind—turns out, he’s just cross-eyed.”
With an old healed wound on his leg, the initially terrified cat put up a fierce front. “When I first got him, he seemed 100% feral, especially since he would try attacking me through his trap,” Tamari recalled.
Undeterred, Tamari persisted. “For a couple of weeks, he continued to seem feral. Something kept telling me to keep giving it a try, so I did,” she said.
With time and patience, Possum, as he came to be known, gradually learned to relax. Tamari, using a stick at first, introduced him to gentle touches. Soon, he welcomed her hands and even started purring. “He’s a fighter and puts on a tough exterior but is an absolute softie once you get to know him.”
Fast forward a month, and Possum, now in a cozy indoor home through City Kitties DC, revealed his true colors – a snuggle-bug and a purr machine. Jen, his foster mom, witnessed the incredible transformation.
“After some adjusting, Possum came out of his shell and started pining for love,” Jen said. A much-needed bath and ear cleaning refreshed Possum. His interaction with another foster cat, Danica, blossomed into a fast friendship.
Possum, with his quirky cross-eyed gaze, embraced his new life. He explored, played with toys, and became a playful little guy. “He may not have the best eyesight, but he gives the most adorable look that no one can resist.”
Possum’s journey, from a street-savvy cat to a lap-loving goofball, showcases his gentle nature and sweet disposition. “He wants nothing more than to live a comfortable indoor life with someone who will give him lots of love and cuddles.”
