In Ulyanovsk, Russia, one quick-thinking worker became a hero for saving a cat’s nine lives in a heart-pounding incident.
The state-owned waste disposal company, Gorkomhoz, shared this harrowing tale on VK, a social network in Russia. It’s a story of a cat rescued from the conveyor belt leading to a trash compactor at the very last moment.
But this wasn’t a typical rescue. The fortunate feline didn’t just wander into the plant and hop onto the conveyor belt. It was inside a tied-up garbage bag, a discovery that could only be described as sheer luck.
An employee found the cat while cutting open the garbage bag and preparing the contents for further sorting. This incident shed light on a growing issue in the region surrounding Ulyanovsk, where the waste sorting plant is situated: the illegal disposal of pets.
Igor Perfiliev, the director of the Gorkomhoz plant, observed that the cat appeared to be well-fed, clean, and cared for, suggesting that someone had attempted to discard their pet.
Perfiliev expressed his surprise at the cruelty of such acts and noted that this was the third case of animal disposal in the past two months, including two red-eared slider turtles and a four-toed hedgehog.
In response to these troubling incidents, the company issued a plea on social media, urging people not to abandon their pets. They emphasized the importance of pet owners fulfilling their responsibility to care for their furry companions.
Fortunately, the cat emerged from this ordeal unharmed but understandably shaken. The Natural Resources Ministry for the Ulyanovsk region decided to make the cat an honorary deputy in charge of wildlife protection, with a new home in the ministry headquarters and the care of government employees.
Meanwhile, the authorities are actively seeking the person responsible for this heartless act, as it is considered a crime under Russian animal protection laws. However, the likelihood of apprehending the culprit remains uncertain.
