Not long ago, a Good Samaritan stumbled upon a surprising sight while walking her dog—a box on the side of the road with an orange tabby cat inside, seeking refuge from the cold.
The kind soul quickly took the feline, now named Thumper, to Veterinary Emergency Group in White Plains (NY), where Little Wanderers NYC, a dedicated volunteer rescue, stepped in to assist.
“He is eating like he’s been starving. He’s exhausted,” shared Little Wanderers NYC.
As preparations for Thumper’s care were underway, a woman named Tricia got wind of his situation. Intrigued by the tabby’s adorable face, she decided to step in and provide him with a forever home.
“I already have six that all have been rescued off the streets. I thought about it for a second and said, ‘I’d take him,'” Tricia recounted.
Determined to make a difference, Tricia connected with Little Wanderers NYC, and it turned out to be a match made in heaven. Less than 24 hours after being discovered in the box, Thumper found his dream home.
“When we got home, he warmed up to me immediately. He’s so sweet,” shared Tricia.
Thumper, with a unique gait reminiscent of a rabbit’s hind legs, couldn’t be happier. Despite his back limbs preventing him from jumping, Tricia quickly noticed his joyful spirit, and they decided to rename him Thumper.
Thumper’s journey from the streets to a loving home unfolded in record time. “Elf (aka Thumper) is home for the holidays in record time,” exclaimed Little Wanderers NYC. “He will never be abandoned again. He’s got catnip toys and treats and everything a cat could want. He’s even got other cat siblings to play with and become family with – a very happy beginning to the holiday season.”
