Hey, guess what happened at Best Friends Felines, a cat rescue in Brisbane, Australia? A cat showed up in need of help, and a few days later, she surprised everyone by bringing six adorable kittens into the world.

So, this lovely lady named Rico caught the attention of a member of the public who reached out to Best Friends Felines for assistance. The rescue agreed to take Rico into their Last Litter Program, where they would help raise the kittens and find them loving homes.

Nikki from Best Friends Felines shared, “Once the babies are weaned, she will be spayed and returned to her owners.” When Rico first arrived, she was a bit unsettled and unsure of what was happening. But within just 48 hours, she was doing roly-poly antics, enjoying tummy tickles and pats.

Rico was pleased with all the comforts and delicious food provided to her. Despite her bulging belly, she managed to jump up to her favorite spot on a cat tree’s top platform—quite impressive. But then, a few days later, something amazing happened.

“She gave birth to six perfect little babies in just three hours.” Rico immediately embraced her mommy duties, feeding her hungry kittens and keeping them immaculately clean. She also sought affection from her foster carer, who became her main source of support whenever she entered the room.

Rico rarely left her kittens’ side during the first week, and she devoured the food served to her in bed, refueling herself throughout the day.

As time went by, Rico started taking more “me-time” and seeking attention from her humans, leaving her snoozing babies in a warm puddle. At just seven days old, the kittens had the cutest round bellies, and their eyes were starting to open, eager to see the world. However, they weren’t quite up to much just yet.

But as the kittens turned two weeks old, one after another, they began to move around. They transformed from wriggly jelly beans into tiny kittens, holding their heads up and blinking wide eyes at the world. Some even attempted their first steps, followed by adorable roll-over tumbles.

The kittens quickly became experts at climbing on their mama, Rico. Mama Rico didn’t mind at all; she would roll around with her chin up as her kittens crawled all over her.

Once the kittens found their footing, they were ready to explore beyond the confines of their bed. It didn’t take long for them to start tackling their room and engaging in playful zoomies.

At this age, their playtime was simply adorable. They would roll around, wave their legs in the air, and take gummy chomps at their siblings’ ears, nose, or whatever they could fit in their mouths. It was a wriggling pile of kittens until they eventually fell asleep, forming an adorable snuggle puddle.

Now, the kittens have reached the five-week mark, blossoming into playful and mischievous young cats. Their personalities are starting to shine, and they’ve become quite snuggly between their bursts of crazy play, sprinting across the room and darting up the cat tree.

They’ve also become big fans of wet food, diving into their meals with gusto. As their confidence and independence grow, Rico is spending more time on the sidelines, taking every opportunity to be with her humans.

The kittens have even started ditching their crate, which has been their bed since birth, and choosing random spots to settle down for the night. Rico is happy to soak up all the human attention she can get before her kittens wake up and come crying for her.
