Not too long ago, Cherry, a stray cat, was living outside, relying on the kindness of strangers. One chilly morning, a homeowner found her under a bush with her three tiny kittens. Realizing it wasn’t a safe place for them, the family reached out for help, and Cherry and her babies found refuge in a local shelter.
But shelters can be stressful, especially for a protective mom like Cherry. She hissed and growled, trying her best to keep her babies safe. That’s when Ellen Richter, an animal rescuer in Las Vegas, stepped in. She knew Cherry needed a safe space to raise her kittens. “I’m experienced with unsocial mama cats, and just wanted her to have a safe place to raise her babies,” Ellen shared.
When Cherry arrived at her new foster home, she was scared and defensive. But Ellen gave her the time and space she needed. Slowly, the growls turned into purrs, and Cherry realized her babies were safe. She started seeking affection, even cuddling up with Ellen for pets.
Cherry is not just a loving mom but also a devoted teacher. She’s been showing her kittens, aptly named Boom Chocolatta, Americone Dream, and Chunky Monkey, the ways of the world. From eating from a plate to exploring their surroundings, Cherry is there, guiding them every step of the way.
Now, Cherry not only watches over her babies but also craves attention and snuggles from Ellen. And Ellen couldn’t be happier to help this incredible momma and her kittens when they needed it the most.
