Introducing Munchie!
At just 7 months old, Munchie may be tiny, but he’s packed with personality.
Despite his small stature, weighing only 1.7 kg (3.7lb), Munchie has a unique condition called hypoparathyroidism, which is so rare that only one other kitten in the world has been diagnosed with it. But don’t let that fool you—Munchie’s zest for life knows no bounds!
Munchie’s human, Emily Tomlinson, first encountered him at the veterinary clinic where she works.
She recalls, “He got handed in at practice after being found by a lady near to a park. I fostered him for a week, then adopted him when no one came forward to claim him.”
Despite his cloudy eyes due to bilateral corneal edema, Munchie took to his new life with gusto.
However, things took a scary turn on Boxing Day when Munchie collapsed unexpectedly.
Rushed to the emergency vets, Munchie underwent a battery of tests and treatments, including ultrasounds, x-rays, and IV therapy. It was then that his condition, hypoparathyroidism, was discovered—a rare diagnosis for a kitten.
Emily remains optimistic despite the challenges ahead. She explains, “He’s like a relatively normal kitten. He does have days where he’s quieter and not as playful, but due to having hypoparathyroidism, symptoms of this are lethargy and tingling sensations, among others.”
At home, Munchie is a sweetheart, enjoying cuddles, sleeping on Emily, and constantly rubbing his face against hers.
And he’s not just loved by Emily; he’s also won over the other members of the family, including Bella the dog and Junior and Aslan the cats.
It’s heartwarming to know that Munchie is surrounded by love and care in his forever home. Despite his challenges, Munchie’s spirit shines bright, bringing joy to everyone around him.
