Meet Pumpkin and Spice, the dynamic feline duo who triumphed over adversity thanks to a second chance at life.
When these two adorable sisters, Pumpkin and Spice, ended up at an animal shelter, their condition was far from ideal. Cloudy eyes and upper respiratory infections had taken a toll on them, but they found solace in each other’s company.
Pumpkin, the calico beauty, was particularly fragile, clinging tightly to her sister Spice, who sported eye-catching Dalmatian-like markings on her chest and legs. What these sisters needed was a foster home and someone dedicated to their round-the-clock care.
That’s when Thoa Bui, co-founder of Mini Cat Town, heard about their plight and didn’t hesitate to bring them into her rescue.
“They were very sick with eye infections so severe that we were unsure what the outcome would be,” Thoa shared.
But Thoa and her team were undaunted by the challenge. “During Pumpkin’s first couple of nights with us, we just hoped she would make it, because she was very unwell.”
Days of intensive care followed, and slowly but surely, Pumpkin began to show signs of improvement. Spice remained by her side, providing encouragement and companionship as they embarked on their healing journey together.
In just a few days in foster care, Spice made remarkable progress. The cloudiness in her eye started to clear, and she became more active with each passing day.
Spice’s resilience served as an inspiration for Pumpkin, spurring her to keep pace with the recovery process. The swelling in Pumpkin’s eyes subsided, and she began to grow in size and fluff.
“After about a week, while their eyes were still being treated, they started feeling better. We knew they would be okay once we saw them eating on their own and playing with each other,” Thoa shared.
“Their newfound energy and playfulness is a far cry from their arrival, when they were feeling so sick, sleeping a lot. Their eye treatment regiment was tough on them. We’re so proud of them for their perseverance.”
Pumpkin’s right eye made a full recovery, but her left eye remained cloudy for some time. However, just when it seemed that all hope was lost for her left eye, a remarkable change occurred. Overnight, the cloudiness began to vanish.
Throughout their recovery journey, these feline sisters remained inseparable. They cherished every moment together and rarely left each other’s side.
Spice, with her confidence and curiosity, encouraged Pumpkin to play, and her exuberant energy rubbed off on her shy sibling. Pumpkin, in turn, gradually emerged from her shell, following Spice’s lead.
“The girls are quite bonded after going through so much together, and we can’t wait to find them a forever home once they are ready. Spice is super outgoing and loves to play. Pumpkin is a little more shy.”
After weeks of healing and growing, Pumpkin and Spice regained their vision and are now in top-notch shape. “Pumpkin is starting to become more friendly and playful because she watches and follows Spice.”
