“Rare, but true – this kitty’s got Janus syndrome!”
Meet Dragon, the two-headed kitten that has taken the internet by storm.
Against all odds, she has managed to survive despite suffering from the incredibly rare Janus syndrome, a condition that almost always results in death.
Hailing from Voronezh, a city in south-western Russia, Dragon is the talk of the town.
With two fully-formed faces, one of them appears to be more functional than the other. Despite being weak and struggling to keep food down, the vets are doing their best to give her the special treatment she needs.
As one family member shared with the local media, “It appears at this early stage that one of the heads does not move well. The kitten is very weak and seems to be finding it hard to keep food down.”
Dragon is truly a fighter, but the journey ahead is still long and uncertain.
Janus syndrome, caused by a condition called diprosopus, is extremely rare, making Dragon’s survival all the more remarkable.
As we watch this little miracle defy the odds, let us remember the words of novelist Jonathan Carroll: “Cats are connoisseurs of comfort.” We hope Dragon finds comfort and love in the days to come.
