Picture this: a rainy day in London, and there’s Saul, wandering along the street, clearly injured and in need of a hero. Luckily, a kind man spotted him and didn’t hesitate to contact the RSPCA. The rescue team swiftly arrived, scooped Saul up, and off to Putney Animal Hospital he went.
“He was in a very sorry state… had discharge coming from his eyes and nose and looked very poorly indeed,” shared an RSPCA spokesperson. Turns out, Saul had been through quite an ordeal—likely a road traffic accident that left him with injuries to his jaw, teeth, and one eye.
But, the story doesn’t end there. The focus was on getting Saul the care he desperately needed. As he slowly started to heal, a peculiar detail emerged—Saul had a perpetually grumpy expression.
“It didn’t seem to matter what kind of mood he’s in or how he was feeling, this ginger kitty always had a grumpy expression on his face.”
The staff speculated that Saul’s grumpiness might be a result of a past injury or maybe he was just born that way. Regardless, his distinctive grumpy face became a defining feature. Beneath that scowl, however, was a sweet and affectionate kitty.
“He doesn’t always look grumpy – sometimes he can be rather cheeky!”
As Saul continued to recover, the staff realized they had a unique character on their hands. Despite the constant scowl, Saul turned out to be really sweet and friendly.
“He’s recovering really well from his injuries, and we hope he will soon be ready to move to our cattery at Southall to find a new home.”
The hospital staff fell head over heels for Saul and his one-of-a-kind expression. Once fully healed, he’ll be ready for adoption, and they’re confident that it won’t take long for a loving family to see the charm behind the grumpy façade.
“We’re sure someone will fall in love with this glum-looking puss. In fact, we think he could be a bit of a star. We’re sure he’d give Grumpy Cat a run for his money, and that’s why we’re affectionately nicknaming him Grumpy Cat 2.0!”
