A dying woman in Missouri had a purrfect final wish: to be surrounded by a basketful of cats.
And her wish came true, thanks to the kind folks at Groves Community Hospice and the Great Plains SPCA.
Carol Heizman had always been a cat lover, so when she became a resident at the hospice in Kansas City, the staff knew just what to do.
They reached out to the SPCA, who brought not one, but five adorable kittens to visit Heizman.
Four of the kittens, just six weeks old, came from the same litter.
The fifth, a tiny black furball, was only four weeks old.
The SPCA wrapped each kitten in a baby blanket and placed them in a huge wicker basket for Heizman to snuggle with.
Heizman was overjoyed as she held each and every kitten.
“Look at all those cute little guys,” she exclaimed as the babies tried to crawl out of the basket. “Oh, they’re so precious.”
One kitten even managed to walk across her shoulders, leaving Heizman beaming with delight.
The SPCA commented, “We all know that pets can sometimes be just what the doctor ordered.”
The hospice center has been fulfilling residents’ wishes through its “Happiness Is” project.
The requests have been mostly simple, like one resident’s wish to hear classical piano music. The SPCA filmed the entire kitty visit and posted it on their Facebook page. The video quickly went viral, with over 63,000 views in just a few days.
Viewers were charmed by the adorable kittens and many asked if they could adopt them. The SPCA stated that the kittens will be available for adoption when they’re about eight weeks old.
So, if you’re in the Missouri area and looking for a feline friend, keep your eyes peeled for these five cuties!
In the end, Heizman’s final wish was granted, and she was surrounded by a basketful of love and joy. As the saying goes, “happiness is a basketful of cats!”
