So, here’s the scoop: a skinny tabby cat, along with her sole kitten, was rescued from a hoarding situation. Heidi Shoemaker, the kind soul behind Foster Kitten Mama in Colorado, was called in to lend a hand.
“Of course, I said ‘yes’,” Heidi shared. “Their previous owners had way too many animals and no means to feed and care for them.”
The initial days were tough – the cat mom, Hatty, seemed disinterested in her baby, Harriet. At just one week old, little Harriet was constantly seeking her mom’s attention.
“Hatty seemed to be going into heat. She wanted nothing to do with Harriet,” Heidi explained. “I put them in the most calm spot and supplemented Harriet with kitten formula.”
Heidi worked tirelessly to ensure Harriet was fed, warm, and loved. Eventually, Hatty’s maternal instincts kicked in. “I literally cried from relief when I first saw her nursing on the camera that I keep in with them,” Heidi recalled.
Hatty finally embraced motherhood, giving Harriet the care she needed. The bond between them grew stronger each day, with Harriet finding solace in her mom’s warm embrace.
As Harriet grew, Hatty diligently looked after her, while Heidi provided supplemental feedings. Harriet’s courage and curiosity blossomed, her eyes wide open and ears unfolding.
“Hatty loves her baby, cuddles with her, and does everything she should,” Heidi shared. “Harriet loves her mama so much and follows her around, trying to keep up.”
From wobbling behind her mom for treats to exploring her surroundings, Harriet is growing by leaps and bounds, always under Hatty’s watchful eye.
“As long as they stay close like this, my plan is for them to be adopted together when the time comes,” Heidi added.
What a heartwarming tale of a kitten and her devoted mama, sticking together through thick and thin. Truly, a bond like no other!
