Meet Karl, the little kitten who refused to give up! About a month ago, Andrea Christian, a dedicated foster mom from St. Francis Rescue, got a call about a tiny 3-week-old kitten in desperate need of help. Despite her hands already being full with other fosters, Andrea couldn’t turn her back on this little furball.
When Karl arrived, he was in a terrible state. “I could tell by the dirt in his fur that he had been sitting in water and had somehow aspirated,” Andrea shared. But this little guy was a fighter. Despite his pneumonia, he had a strong spirit and an even stronger voice.
“Despite his pneumonia, Karl was such a tiny fighter. Thank goodness he was a tiny screamer as well,” Andrea recalled. Every time Andrea came to care for him, Karl would gather all his strength to let her know what he needed, whether it was feeding time or just some comforting pets.
Through Andrea’s dedicated care, Karl started to show signs of improvement. After days of drip and syringe feedings, he finally managed to suckle from his bottle. “It was then that I knew he was going to be okay,” Andrea said, her voice full of hope.
With his newfound strength, Karl’s personality began to shine. He became curious and playful, not shy about expressing his opinions. “He loves to run and play, always comes back to check on me to make sure I am near,” Andrea shared. And just recently, Karl hit a significant milestone by crossing the one-pound mark. He celebrated by exploring his room, inspecting every cat toy he could find.
Now, Karl is thriving and has even graduated into a proper playpen. He has made friends with the resident cats and is learning the ropes of being a happy, playful kitten. “He doesn’t scream at the top of his lungs so much anymore; instead, he follows his foster mom around, being her cutest little shadow,” Andrea said, her heart undoubtedly full of pride for her little miracle.
Karl’s story is a testament to the power of love and determination. If you want to follow more heartwarming stories like Karl’s, check out Andrea’s fosters on Instagram @turtlecatfoster.
