In Kent, Ohio, when the pandemic hit and Kate had to shift to working from home, her cat Buffy couldn’t have been happier. Finally, a chance to spend the whole day with her favorite human!
“Buffy and I have developed quite the routine over the past year and a half,” Kate shared. “She kicks off the workday by sitting with me for about ten minutes before deciding she’s done with the whole ‘office’ thing and runs off.”
Apparently, Buffy finds office work a tad monotonous, so she took it upon herself to bring a little excitement into Kate’s work life by communicating with her colleagues. Despite lacking opposable thumbs, Buffy has mastered the art of typing messages.
“She jumps up on the desk and then casually saunters across the laptop keyboard,” Kate explained. “I often have Microsoft Teams open for work, so she ends up typing a long string of gibberish and then accidentally hits the ‘enter’ key, sending the nonsensical message off to my coworkers.”
Kate can’t help but laugh at Buffy’s antics, while her coworkers enjoy the unexpected workplace banter.
“Buffy loves the attention, and this is her way of being part of my workday,” Kate added. Far from being an annoyance, Buffy’s messages have become a delightful addition to the work atmosphere.
“As long as she’s not messing with actual work, it’s harmless fun and could be a turning point in someone’s day,” Kate said. “My coworkers find it amusing and always respond by laughing or sending her a message back.”
In the end, Buffy’s paw-sitive interventions have turned out to be a great morale booster, bringing smiles to her coworkers’ faces. Kate summed it up, saying, “It’s funny, and it brings a smile to my coworkers’ faces. I know if one of my coworkers’ cats sent me a message, I’d find it adorable.”
