Hira Khalid recently welcomed Bilu into her home after adopting him from the NKLA Pet Adoption Center in Los Angeles. Bilu quickly settled in and formed a deep bond with his new mom.
“He’s the most affectionate, caring cat,” says Hira. “I’m honestly so lucky that I got him because he’s so friendly — he goes and sits on anyone’s lap and starts purring, and cuddles with them on their chests.”
But when Hira was invited on a week-long trip to Mexico with her friends, she faced a dilemma about who would cat-sit Bilu. Her dad, remembering their previous family cat Bubba’s messy outdoor adventures, was skeptical about having Bilu indoors.
“He was an ‘indoor-outdoor’ cat and used to come home very muddy and leave footprints everywhere,” recalls Hira.
However, Hira assured her parents that Bilu was potty trained and would be fine indoors for a week. Reluctantly, her parents agreed to look after Bilu while she was away.
Throughout her trip, Hira couldn’t shake the worry about how Bilu was getting along with her parents. Fortunately, she received a delightful surprise a few days into her vacation — her dad sent pictures of Bilu snuggled against his neck!
Hira was thrilled by her dad’s newfound affection for Bilu, especially considering his previous reservations about cats.
Upon her return, Hira sensed that her parents were sad to see Bilu go. But she reassured them that they could always visit Bilu anytime they wanted!
