Picture this: you head to the store to buy cat food, and you come back with a 25lb rescue cat. Sounds crazy, right? Well, that’s exactly what happened to Reddit user GREGORIOtheLION.

While browsing the SPCA adoption center in PetSmart, GREGORIOtheLION stumbled upon a colossal cat named Pumpkin.

According to his paperwork, Pumpkin had emigrated from England with his family but was given up when they had a child, deeming him “too needy.” Heartbroken, Pumpkin was in dire need of a new home.

GREGORIOtheLION and his wife couldn’t resist Pumpkin’s charms. As soon as they opened his cage, Pumpkin squeaked and the rest was history. “It was love at first sight for us,” GREGORIOtheLION recalls.

But there was one catch: Pumpkin was overweight, and whoever adopted him had to get his weight down. GREGORIOtheLION wasn’t intimidated by this, as he had already helped his other cat shed some pounds.

“The vet said he’s actually 21.8 lbs, and we need to get him to 13. He’s the most affectionate cat we’ve ever had,” GREGORIOtheLION says. “We normally don’t keep the name they come with, but what else do you call a 25 lb orange cat?”

Once Pumpkin settled into his new home, he quickly made himself at home. “He’s digging the office, where we’re keeping him while he and our other cat get to know each other. He loves the tree,” GREGORIOtheLION notes.

But when introduced to their other cat, Bartleby, Pumpkin couldn’t be bothered with sniffing around. Instead, he opted to lay on the couch and declare, “I don’t need to smell anything. I’m home.”

As for his new name, Pumpkin was renamed Pumpkin Cumberbatch Pierce, the Duke of Hebron. It’s safe to say that Pumpkin found his forever home, and GREGORIOtheLION and his wife found the sweetest and most affectionate cat ever.

What a heartwarming tale with a happy ending!
