Say hello to Flossie, the cat who’s rewriting the record books! Born in 1995 and calling the UK home, this feline superstar has just snagged the title of the world’s oldest living cat, according to the folks at Guinness World Records.
Yep, you heard it right. Flossie is over 27 years old, which, in cat years, is almost as ancient as the world’s longest-surviving human. The Editor in Chief at Guinness World Records even breaks it down for us, saying, “This is the human equivalent of over 120 years old.” That’s like reaching the level of Jeanne Calment, the French supercentenarian who lived to a whopping 122 years and 164 days – the oldest person ever!
But let’s rewind a bit. Flossie, probably oblivious to her newfound fame, kicked off life as a community/stray cat in Merseyside, UK. Her luck changed when compassionate workers at a nearby hospital decided to adopt some cats, and Flossie found herself a cozy home.
After a decade of living happily with her first owner, Flossie then moved in with her sister for another 14 years. When her sister passed away, Flossie joined her son, but things took a turn, and she ended up in the care of Cats Protection.
Enter Vicki Green, a London resident with experience in giving senior cats the love and care they deserve. Flossie hit the jackpot with Vicki, who says, “I knew from the start that Flossie was a special cat, but I didn’t imagine I’d share my home with a Guinness World Records title holder.”
Despite her age and a rocky start, Flossie is a sweetheart – affectionate, playful, and quite the charmer. Vicki shares, “She’s deaf and with failing eyesight but none of that seems to bother her. She’s completely with it, loves affection, and has a very good appetite.”
Vicki is thrilled to have Flossie in her life, saying, “She never turns her nose up at the chance of a good meal, except when she’s snuggled on her favorite yellow blanket.”
And there you have it – Flossie, the world record-breaker, enjoying her well-deserved golden years. Check out the video below to catch a glimpse of this remarkable kitty!
