Meet Petunia the kitten, a little ball of fur with a heart full of gratitude and love. This tiny feline has a heartwarming story to tell, and she’s using her adorable gestures to say “thanks” to everyone who changed her life.
Petunia’s journey began when she arrived at Little Wanderers NYC, seeking a chance at a better life. At just a few weeks old, she faced a tough challenge – being separated from her mother and siblings. To make matters worse, she was diagnosed with panleukopenia, a disease with a grim 10% survival rate for kittens her age. But Petunia wasn’t one to give up easily. With round-the-clock support from dedicated volunteers, she started defying the odds and making progress every day.
Little Wanderers NYC shared, “This girl, at just a few weeks old, entered a fight for her life and she fought so well. She lives to tell the tale.”
Petunia, always a social and outgoing cat, found the isolation during her treatment quite lonely. She would cry nonstop in her enclosure until she got the attention she craved. When her caretaker entered the room, she would run briskly towards them, rubbing her face into their gloved hands, as if starved of love.
As Petunia’s healing journey continued, the rescue began searching for a foster family that could provide the one-on-one attention she longed for. She needed a companion for this journey, and Mashaal from the rescue stepped up to open her home to this little fighter.
The moment Petunia walked into her new home, she made it clear that she never wanted to be alone again. She became the perpetual supervisor and clinger of the house, following her people around like their little shadow. Whenever they sat on the couch, she would come running and settle onto their lap. And when it was nap time, she nestled in and fell asleep right beside them.
Petunia’s energy and appetite came back with a bang. She became a firecracker, racing up and down the stairs and always eager to play. The rescue shared, “She adores her foster family and when she tires of playtime, she approaches them for cuddles. She even answers to her nickname, Toony.”
But what truly makes Petunia’s heart sing is being in the arms of her beloved humans. She insists on sleeping with them all the time.
After overcoming illness and loneliness, Petunia has transformed into a social butterfly and the ultimate cuddle-bug. Her purring motor goes into overdrive as she showers everyone in the house with snuggles, soaking up all the love.
“We are so happy we got to save Petunia, and we are looking forward to seeing her thrive in her forever home,” the rescue beamed.
