This cat found a kind-hearted person willing to lend a helping hand, all so her kittens could have a better life.
Willow, as she came to be known, was discovered by a Good Samaritan wandering around homeless.
Concerned for her well-being, the person tried to locate her family but unfortunately, no one stepped forward to claim her. It turns out she wasn’t even microchipped.
As time went on, Willow’s belly started to grow, hinting at her pregnancy. That’s when Mellissa, the founder of Tiny But Mighty Kitten Rescue, came across the plea for assistance and wasted no time in offering her support.
“I reached out and offered to take her in knowing that she was likely pregnant based on her belly,” Mellissa shared with us.
Once Willow found herself in a safe and comfortable environment, she quickly settled in, enjoying the comforts of a cozy spot, delicious food, and an abundance of toys to keep her entertained. She seemed right at home, claiming every soft blanket and cushion for herself.
“She was extremely friendly from the second she arrived, so I knew she had a family at some point.”
Little did they know, Willow’s arrival at the rescue came just in the nick of time. A few weeks later, she experienced a seizure and required immediate veterinary care.
Thanks to timely medical attention and a second opinion, Willow was prescribed medication safe for her kittens, and she has been seizure-free ever since.
Mellissa breathed a sigh of relief, knowing that she had intervened just in time to help Willow. “Willow and her babies would not have survived had she still been outside. I’m incredibly grateful that she ended up in my care when she did,” Mellissa expressed to us.
On August 1st, Willow gave birth to two beautiful kittens, a little past her due date. Mellissa was by her side throughout the labor, but when the delivery stalled and posed a risk to the rest of the litter, immediate action was taken. Willow was rushed for emergency care, and it was decided that a C-section was the best and safest option.
The procedure went smoothly, and Willow, who was also spayed during the operation, bounced back quickly. Her appetite returned, and she wasted no time diving into her motherly duties.
She diligently cares for her kittens, keeping them clean, well-fed, and cozy. Snuggling up to them, she purrs them to sleep, providing a nurturing and loving environment.
As the days pass, the kittens continue to grow and achieve significant milestones. They’re learning to find their feet and figuring out the art of balance. Mellissa is there every step of the way, assisting Willow in ensuring the kittens are healthy and thriving.
When one of the kittens, a tortoiseshell cutie, unexpectedly faced a health setback, Mellissa dedicated her entire night to providing intensive care and maintaining a constant heat source to nurse the baby back to health.
“Her ‘tortitude’ is strong, and she’s absolutely determined to live. She’s gaining weight daily, incredibly active, alert, and vocal,” Mellissa shared with us, reflecting the kitten’s resilience.
At two weeks old, the kittens are becoming more active and curious. Willow watches them with immense pride as they waddle around the nest, honing their walking skills.
“This little girl already weighs one pound at only two weeks old. That’s the average weight of a kitten who is four weeks old.”
The family of five fills the room with constant purrs, and Willow couldn’t be happier knowing her precious ones are safe and loved.
