When the shelter staff in Philadelphia discovered a large cat in a box at Hunting Park, they knew they had to come up with a special name for her.
And what could be more fitting than “Lasagna”? The video of this giant feline went viral, capturing the hearts of many and ultimately leading her to find a new home and embark on a healthier lifestyle.
The employees at ACCT Philly Shelter were astounded when they weighed the hefty fur ball. The scale showed a staggering 29.5 pounds! That’s quite a load for a cat. Inspired by Garfield’s favorite dish, they affectionately named her Lasagna.
But it wasn’t just a forever home that Lasagna needed; she also required a strict diet. Her weight wasn’t just impressive—it was dangerously unhealthy. The shelter team humorously mentioned on their Facebook page that she had taken the “quarantine15” a little too seriously.
Ordinary house cats usually weigh between six and 11 pounds, so Lasagna was nearly three times the normal weight. She was so big that the staff had to assist her with grooming.
The heartwarming “Meet Lasagna” video on ACCT Philly’s website gained over 1,700 views, with numerous people expressing their desire to adopt this five-year-old heavyweight. One user even suggested the name “Meatball” would have been more appropriate.
Ultimately, the Hammer family from New Jersey won the opportunity to welcome Lasagna into their lives. ACCT Philly shared the exciting news that they were eager to help her regain a healthy weight.
ACCT Philly expressed their gratitude to the Facebook community for their interest and extended appreciation to Stouffer’s, who generously donated an actual lasagna to the shelter staff and Lasagna’s new family. With her new loving home and dedicated caretakers, Lasagna’s journey to a healthier and happier life had just begun.
