Picture this: a gray cat named Stratus had been living with 40 other felines in a small New York City home. The only place she could call her own was a dangerously high window ledge. Yikes!
Luckily, Animal Haven, a rescue organization, received a call about Stratus and her situation. They rushed to help, taking about 10-15 cats into their care at a time. On the third round of rescues, they spotted Stratus perched high above them, staring down at them from her perilous perch.
The rescuers were faced with a dilemma. Should they intervene and try to rescue Stratus or let her come inside on her own? After learning that Stratus often retreated to the window ledge, they decided to wait for her to come back inside.
And boy, were they glad they did! Stratus was pregnant and needed a safe place to give birth. When she finally returned to the house, she had just delivered a litter of adorable kittens!
The rescuers were shocked but relieved that they didn’t attempt to rescue Stratus earlier. It could have been a lot more dangerous if she was in the beginning stages of labor.
Stratus and her babies were taken back to Animal Haven, where they received the necessary medical care. They will stay there until the kittens are old enough to be rehomed, at which point, all of them will be looking for their forever families.
Shannon McLaughlin Kirkman, Animal Haven’s director of development and communications, praised Stratus for being a wonderful mom. “She [and] her babies are all cozy and happy,” she said.
In conclusion, Stratus and her family are finally living the life they deserve, thanks to the quick thinking and compassionate hearts of the Animal Haven team.
