Smokey, the adventurous kitten, pulled off quite the stunt when he hopped on a fire truck during a massive warehouse fire in Red Hook, Brooklyn. The New York City Fire Department (FDNY) firefighters were in for a surprise when they found a soot-covered kitten at their station the next day.

“They believe the kitten climbed into one of the rigs and made it back to the station. What a brave kitten,” shared Little Wanderers NYC.

Initially named Salty, the scared and dirty kitten was comforted by a firefighter who found him. Recognizing the need for care, the station reached out to local rescues, and Little Wanderers NYC stepped in to help.

“He is in fairly good health considering he survived impossible odds. He’s dirty but grateful to have been rescued,” the rescue mentioned after Smokey received a clean bill of health.

With no one claiming the kitten, Rosemarie, a family friend of the firefighter, came across Smokey’s photos and decided, “I will take him.” The kitten, now renamed Smokey, found a loving home where he quickly bonded with Rosemarie’s son, Michael.

“It’s a tale of two souls that found each other through tragedy and made a new family,” shared Little Wanderers NYC. Smokey, once a stowaway in a fire truck, now enjoys lap time and extra TLC with his forever family.
