No one really knows where this cat came from, but judging by his condition, it’s clear he had been neglected for quite some time – maybe even years.
One morning at Douglas County Animal Care & Services, the staff encountered an animal carrier with a massive tangle of fluff inside. Initially puzzled, they couldn’t even tell if it was a cat or a dog.
Supervisor Liz described the discovery, saying, “We took the top off and thought, ‘Oh my gosh, it’s a cat!’ I’ve never seen a cat in that sort of condition.” The poor kitty was practically immobile under the matted layers.
With immediate concern, they took him to the vet, where about 4.5 pounds of hair was shaved off after sedating him. This newfound freedom instantly boosted the confidence of the cat, playfully named Bob Marley due to his previous dreadlocked appearance.
Once liberated from the weighty mess, Bob started walking around, displaying a readiness to jump onto counters, which left Liz thinking, “No you can’t.”
Now, Bob has found a loving home where he’ll be helped to recover from the neglect he endured. A diet is in place to shed those excess pounds he gained from a sedentary lifestyle. At 10 years old, Bob has many good years ahead, and he has transformed into quite a handsome cat.
Efforts are underway to locate Bob’s previous owner, with CCTV footage capturing the person who left him at the shelter. The local Sheriff’s Office is seeking help to identify this individual. Whether the person was the owner or a good Samaritan who rescued Bob remains uncertain, but what matters most is that Bob is now happy, loved, and free from his tangled past.
