Meet Ratbag the Vandal, the adorable calico kitten with a knack for choosing her forever human, and in this case, it’s Dave, the owner of a pizza shop in Australia.
One day, Dave had an unexpected visitor in his shop – a little stray calico kitten who sneaked in through the back gate. Despite Dave’s initial surprise, the fearless feline made it clear she wasn’t leaving.
“She looked lost, frightened, and nervous due to all the strange noises and smells,” Dave shared. However, after a few minutes, the plucky kitten approached Dave, seeking attention. “I popped her up on my shoulder, and she felt at home right away. She started rubbing against my ears and the back of my neck and purring.”
Realizing she might belong to someone, Dave attempted to get her to follow him out of the shop, but she had other plans. No one came forward in the neighborhood claiming her, leading Dave to accept that she was now part of his life.
Back home, Dave reached out on social media to find her a good home, but Ratbag had already decided she was staying, promptly falling asleep on his lap. “She has decided she is staying, and who could argue with that little face,” Dave said. Ratbag the Vandal officially joined the newly created “finger-chewing and cuteness team” at the pizza shop.
Dave took her to the vet for a check-up, micro-chipping, and vaccinations. The vet suspected she had been abandoned but certainly chose the right place to seek refuge.
Now named Ratbag the Vandal, she became Dave’s purr-sonal supervisor, especially when he’s on the computer. She quickly took charge of the household, with her own pillow castle and a penchant for playing with dog toys.
“I have a kitten obstacle course in a storeroom that she enjoys. She loves playing with dog toys and sleeps either next to me as a furry hot water bottle or on a pillow beside or behind my head.”
Dave never anticipated being chosen by a stray kitten, but Ratbag’s charm won him over. “She’s the staunchest, toughest kitten on the block!” Now, Dave and Ratbag share a special bond that all started with an unexpected visit to the pizza shop.
