Prepare yourself for a tale that every cat owner can relate to—the daily “gifts” that our feline friends bestow upon us.
We’re talking about those delightful surprises waiting on our doorsteps each morning, like half a mouse or a bird wing, as we groggily stumble downstairs for our morning dose of Cornflakes.
And hey, let’s not forget the times they decide to add a touch of class by sprinkling a bit of pee on the carpet. Thanks, buddy.
But hold your whiskers, because there’s one clever kitty who understood her owner’s exasperation and came up with a genius solution—she replaced the morning rodent extravaganza with a humble leaf.
Yes, you heard that right. A leaf, delivered with love, each and every day!
Ben, the fortunate owner, spilled the beans on this leafy affair. He shared that his cat, Baloo, initially showered him with affection by presenting mice and small birds as treats, leaping through the bedroom window and dropping her little surprises right on Ben’s face or chest.
“Imagine waking up to a furry friend on your chest, proudly holding a tiny treasure in her mouth, only to plop it right on your sleepy face and meow,” Ben revealed to the Metro.
“Now, I don’t know if she expected me to think it was breakfast or simply a thoughtful gift,” he pondered.
However, Ben admitted that although he never scolded his adoring feline, he did manage to convey his lack of enthusiasm for the early morning deliveries.
“Waking up with a small rodent on your face elicits a certain reaction in the morning, as you can probably imagine,” Ben confessed. “I would jump out of bed, frantically trying to catch the critter, making a big fuss about it.”
“Once I caught it, I would give Baloo a stern look and say, ‘Stop bringing me these things!'” he recounted with a chuckle, “then dramatically toss the creature out the window right before her eyes.”
Baloo would always appear bewildered and melancholic, tugging at Ben’s heartstrings. “I couldn’t be mad at her for being a cat, and deep down, I’m pretty sure she believes she’s doing good,” Ben mused.
“She was out all night, diligently hunting these presents for me. It seemed like she considered it her purpose. While we humans made a mess throughout the night and slept till noon, she was fulfilling her duty by going out and bringing home the bacon, so to speak.”
And that’s when the leaves made their grand entrance.
Ben continued, “Sometimes it was a tiny branch, other times a giant leaf. Always these magnificent, eye-catching leaves. It was such a relief from the live mice routine that I couldn’t help but show my gratitude by taking the leaf and playfully engaging with it while Baloo sat comfortably on my chest.”
“Picture this: I open my bleary eyes to find my adorable furball staring back at me, proudly holding a massive leaf in her mouth. It’s ridiculously cute. My reaction was undoubtedly obvious to anyone—I was genuinely delighted.”
Nowadays, Baloo resides in a lively student house with six guys (and their four girlfriends), but she seems to revel in the bustling atmosphere.
“It may not be the most ideal living situation for even a human,” Ben chuckled, “but she absolutely adores the constant socializing and the occasional fast-food scraps. She’ll saunter around wild parties, seeking attention. She has become quite the popular sensation.”
“She’s an affectionate cat,” Ben concluded, “and everyone in my apartment building knows her by name because she frequents the other flats, spreading her charm far and wide.”
