If you’ve ever given your cat a bit of catnip, you know the effect it can have: from rolling around on the floor to acting like a crazy feline. But one kitty took it to the next level when it got into a whole pound of the stuff!

The image of the wide-eyed, spaced-out cat was posted online by its owner, who proudly announced: “I just bought my cat a pound of catnip… good kitty.”

While some people were concerned for the cat’s wellbeing, experts assured us that catnip is completely non-toxic for our feline friends.

Sure, the tuxedo cat may need a few hours to come back down to earth after its wild adventure, but it’s unlikely to become ill unless it ate an enormous amount of the plant – which is highly improbable.

Interestingly, catnip is a member of the mint family and can even be used in teas to give a calming effect. It acts similarly to chamomile on humans, but it’s best known for driving our furry companions insane.

While scientists are still unsure about what it is in catnip that makes cats go crazy, they do know that the response is genetic. So if your cat isn’t affected by catnip, it’s not because they’re immune or have a high tolerance – it’s just the luck of the genetic draw.
