Let me tell you about the time a woman in Yonkers, New York went for a quick walk around the block with her dog on a freezing December morning. She was planning on returning home soon, but something caught her eye that she just couldn’t ignore. There was a cardboard box on the street and her intuition told her to take a closer look.

Her dog slowly approached the box to take a sniff, and that’s when something inside moved. The woman didn’t hesitate and opened the box to find a cute orange cat staring back at her.

The woman quickly picked up the cat and brought him to a nearby veterinary hospital. The veterinary team was surprised by how friendly the cat was, and how grateful he seemed to be for getting out of the cold.

The cat was healthy but had a leg injury that hadn’t healed properly. So the vet team contacted Little Wanderers NYC to see if they could help find him a loving home. Little Wanderers named the cat Elf and took him into their care while they searched for his forever family.

Elf was affectionate with his new friends at Little Wanderers and they believed he had a family in the past. But his new family, Miri and Eliezer, fell in love with him instantly and took him home.

Now Elf goes by the name Sunkist and spends his days playing with his toys and cuddling with his new family. He’ll never have to sleep in a cardboard box again and will only enjoy them for fun and playtime. Little Wanderers hopes to continue educating the public about responsible pet care and making veterinary resources more accessible to help more cats like Sunkist find forever homes.
