Have you ever heard a desperate cry and didn’t know what to do? Kristine Malone was waiting for a train in New York City when she heard a heart-wrenching cry coming from the tracks.
She looked down and saw a small clump of orange fur pressed against a stone wall. It was a tiny kitten!
Malone knew she had to do something to help, so she posted an emergency message on social media, hoping someone could come to the rescue.
Luckily, John Debacker, the vice president of Long Island Cat/Kitten Solution, Inc., saw the post and stepped in to help.
But rescuing a kitten from a train track is not an easy task, especially when the kitten is scared and hiding.
Debacker and his team had to figure out how to get to the kitten without putting themselves in danger. They eventually found a way to access the tracks with the help of two animal-loving Metro-North police officers who shut off the power and escorted them onto the tracks.
Once on the tracks, Debacker and his team carefully inched closer to the kitten and used a rescue net to scoop him up. They named him Metro, and Debacker took him to a local shelter for temporary housing.
Metro was scared at first, but Debacker noticed that he was different from other feral cats he had rescued in the past.
He was sweet almost instantly!
After a few weeks in the shelter, Kristine Malone came to visit Metro and fell in love with him. She decided to officially adopt him and give him a loving home.
Now, Metro is living his best life with Malone and her daughter in an apartment not too far from the train tracks where he was initially found.
“Metro is thoroughly enjoying his new life in his new home … like a feline fairy tale,” wrote the shelter in a Facebook post.
It’s impossible to know what Metro’s life was like before he was rescued, but one thing is for sure – he’s finally where he belongs.
Thanks to the kindness and quick thinking of Kristine Malone and the rescue efforts of John Debacker and his team, Metro’s life was saved, and he found a loving home.
